Advancing reading skills of elementary students

In-school mentors’ primary job is to assist students in kindergarten through third grade in practicing their literacy skills, with the goal of reaching grade level milestones by the end of the year. Click here for more information.

United Way of Jackson County COVID-19 Response Volunteers VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! If you are at in a low-risk group for complications from COVID-19, we need your help with deliveries of essentials to Jackson County residents who are homebound or lack transportation. We may also need assistance with sanitizing donations and other projects as they come up. There are a few requirements: - You must be healthy, with no symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness. - You must not have been exposed to the virus or in close quarters with someone who has been ill, to the best of your knowledge. - You must follow CDC guidelines for washing/sanitizing your hands, maintaining social distancing, etc. - You may need to provide your own transportation. Right now we’re just recruiting volunteers, so don’t worry if you don’t hear back for a while. Actual volunteer assignments may take some time. SEMDRS Southeastern Michigan Dispute Resolution Services SouthEastern Dispute Resolution Services When a dispute is a "people" problem rather than a legal problem we are asked to Mediate. We have twenty volunteers and three paid staff and are located in the United Way building on Ganson. We get invited to a variety of issues from school to seniors. Youth Haven Kitchen Service Youth Haven serves hundreds and hundreds of hurting and needy kids in Jackson and surrounding communities.We are looking for volunteers (18+) to serve in our kitchen. We need people who are interested in light meal prep and serving food to the kids, under the supervision of our Food Service Manager. Youth Haven Grounds Clean-Up Youth Haven serves hundreds and hundreds of hurting and needy kids in Jackson and surrounding communities. Community Action Agency VITA and My Free Taxes Income tax preparation. We have several approaches to helping folks file their income tax returns. You can coach those who are willing to try to do their own or you can do returns for those who would prefer that. We welcome support staff.
